Understanding the Needs of Adults with Physical Disabilities Living in Burlington
Listening to Learn: Understanding the Needs of Adults with Physical Disabilities Living in Burlington Area Throughout their Lifespan

SHS Consulting, in collaboration with Supported@Home Burlington has recently completed a research study called Listening to Learn: Understanding the Needs of Adults with Physical Disabilities Living in Burlington Area Throughout their Lifespan. The project engaged adults with physical disabilities in meaningful conversation using a variety of qualitative participatory methods, asking questions regarding their experiences related to housing, services, and overall quality of life. A number of key issues and factors arose to ensure that adults with physical disabilities have a high quality of life, including: providing choice; providing supports for overall wellness; providing services that support independent living; nurturing the relationship between staff and clients; fostering seamless navigation and coordination of services; incorporating accessible design features; encouraging interaction with the community; providing adequate resources; and embracing the model of person-centred care.
