Housing Strategies

SHS possesses extensive experience in the preparation of comprehensive housing strategies aimed at identifying needs across the full housing continuum and developing policies, programs and strategies to meet these needs.  Conducted primarily for municipal service managers, these studies combine housing market analysis, needs identification, special needs analysis, survey research, community consultation, environmental scans and best practice review to identify key housing issues and gaps and enable the development of wide-ranging strategies and initiatives.  These studies not only assist municipalities in addressing housing issues and gaps, but also in meeting the requirements of the Provincial Policy Statement and Places to Grow:  Growth Plan for the Golden Horseshoe.

Christine Pacini and Ed Starr of SHS authored the Ontario Professional Planners’ Institute Guide to the Preparation of Community Affordable Housing Strategies that is followed by many municipalities in developing these strategies.
