City of Orillia Affordable Housing Action Plan - April 19, 2010
City of Orillia Affordable Housing Action Plan was received by Council on April 19th with unanimous support.

In response to recent provincial Growth Plan (2006) policies, the outcomes of the County of Simcoe Housing Needs Assessment and Recommended Policies (2007), and the need to better understand and address local housing issues, the City of Orillia hired SHS Consulting to assist in the development of an Affordable Housing Action Plan.

The Affordable Housing Action Plan includes a detailed analysis of the current housing issues facing the City of Orillia and thirty-five recommended actions to help support the development of cost-effective rental and home ownership opportunities within Orillia.  The study was completed in three phases and includes a comprehensive review of relevant data and literature, including Statistics Canada custom tabulations, a detailed analysis of the demand and supply of housing in Orillia, and a thorough analysis of household affordability within the City.  The study also relied on stakeholder consultation including interviews, surveys (email and telephone), and a public consultation session.
